I completely agree with Olivia. Valentine’s Day does not have to be just about a significant other and should be about celebrating the people you love in your life. Love is love! ️ Heck, without several of my girlfriends, I may not be married to this day. They lift me up, bring so much laughter into my life and help me to realize that all marriages go through ups and downs. I love celebrating my girlfriends on Valentine’s Day too. This year I found a fun DIY LaMer Lip Balm that I am making for several of my friends.
Choc-o-mint lip balm
Makes 18 .15-ounce tubes of lip balm
Ingredients:
1/4 cup cocoa butter 1/4 cup beeswax 1/4 cup coconut oil 20 drops peppermint essential oil
1. To set up the double boiler, pour 2 to 3 inches of water into the bottom pot and about 1 inch of water into the upper pot. Heat until the water in the top pot is steaming.
2. Add the cocoa butter, beeswax, and coconut oil to a glass measuring pitcher, and gently place the pitcher into the steaming water of the upper pot. Stir the ingredients continually until they are fully melted.
3. Once the contents of the measuring pitcher are melted and combined, remove the pitcher from the warm water and carefully dry the outside of the pitcher with a paper towel.
4. Add the peppermint essential oil to the mixture and stir.
5. Line up the lip balm tubes on a sheet of parchment paper. With a steady hand, carefully pour the mixture directly from the measuring pitcher into each tube, filling it all the way to the rim. Be sure to do this step right away, while the mixture is hot and fully melted. If the mixture starts to cool (you will know because it will begin setting and will be difficult to work with), simply place the measuring pitcher back into the hot water in the upper pot to re-melt the gel. The lip balm will stay fresh for 3 months.
I have been married 26 years and we still find fun unique ways to celebrate Valentine's Day. If I’m completely honest, I absolutely hate going out to a restaurant on Valentine’s Day and I absolutely hate getting flowers on Valentine’s Day. If my life were "perfect", which we all know it is not, we would celebrate our love for each other every day and not on one corny day. I feel that on Valentine's Day everything is overrated, overpriced, and usually half as good.
Do I sound old???
With that said I still love celebrating Valentine's Day with my husband by finding unique and fun ways to spend the day.
Here are some of my ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day: Work up a sweat together! Go for a long bike ride or hike. Write each other an annual letter. It could be a letter of gratitude or a letter of some of your favorite memories spent together.
Movie night with all the fixing. Popcorn & Candy, Chocolate of course.
Wine and Chocolate tasting. There are so many fun and different chocolate bars out on the market now. Buy a few unique chocolate bars and some of your favorite red wines and see which ones pair the best. PS you can buy half bottles of wine.
Have a masseuse come to the house for a couples massage.
Have a game night.
Do a virtual cooking class together. Pick a region of cooking you both love!
Go on a mini-vacation. I am ready for a mini-vacation and have been keeping my eye on this cute/amazing hotel in Cambria. It won't happen this year but definitely on my list for next year.
Valentine's Day represents LOVE in all forms. Why not take advantage of the opportunity to pour out love in every way you can this year. Get creative and have fun! Valentines should be a holiday that is filled with tons of laughter and amazing memories made with the people you love and adore.
